Menopause

Menopause is the time in a woman’s life when she stops menstruating. This usually happens between the ages of 45 and 60 (although it can be earlier). Menopause, however, is not a sudden occurrence.

There are three specific stages of menopause: Perimenopause are the years (typically the mid-40s) when the woman begins to produce fewer of the female hormones, estrogen and progesterone.

It may last for as little as two years or as long as eight. Menopause is the time when the woman’s body cuts back on the production of female hormones, which in turn, leads to decreased egg release and decreased menstruating.

This can sometimes happen as soon as age 35. Postmenopause is the term used for the years in a woman’s life following menopause.
